Should I buy a hardware wallet?

I can say I'm definitely a security conscious individual. I don't open emails I don't recognize, I don't download random things off the internet, I take my security fairly seriously. I'm looking to get into crypto, with investments in a few of the bigger coins and then smaller ones in some altcoins for HODLing.

I notice a lot of wallets don't have support for some new coins, but of course they do for big ones. Would it be worth having a hardware wallet to keep the bulk of my investment (in the meantime they'd probably be kept on something like Coinbase w/security key attachment), while keeping the rest simply in something like metamask? I keep the password/seed for that in my password manager, which seems safe enough - if I've lost security on my desktop, nothing else matters anyway.

Looking for some people who know better than me to point me in the right direction here.
